INTRO TO SOLO PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP with Erika MacDonald
Firelight Theatre Workshop is over the moon to welcome back performance artist and Peterborough native, Erika MacDonald, as our Season 9 Guest Artist!
What!? You think I want to stand on a stage all by myself? And say words I come up with myself?
Yes. Yes, I do think you want that. And I want to be there while you give it a try.
This 4-hour one-day workshop is designed to get you out of your head, into your body, and onstage by yourself. By the end of the workshop you will have created and performed your own original one-minute solo performance piece. Exercises will put you in touch with some of your solo performance “scene partners”: your own Body, the Space, and your Audience. So even though you will be performing by yourself you will never feel alone.
$80 Early Enrollment (by 2/28/26) | $95 Regular Enrollment
THE PRACTICE:
AN ADVANCED 8-WEEK SCENE STUDY
Acting is a practice. It’s an endless pursuit of connection, presence, craft, technique, and spontaneity in order to tell a meaningful, good story to/with/for an audience. We’ve discovered that there is a group of regular Firelighters who are ready and rarin’ to be in practice. To be up on their feet in a regular and robust way. This offering, we hope, reflects this desire, this readiness.
The Practice is a new program at Firelight, in which we invite advanced participants the opportunity to accelerate and deepen their scene study. The goal for us at Firelight is to offer more independence and rigor for students who want to develop + hone an ongoing practice.
Independence. We believe that independence from active instruction and independence of taste (students select their own material!) leads to a freer instrument.
Collaboration. We believe true ensemble is possible with healthy collaboration, listening, respect, and a commitment to both giving and taking. We invite participants to give space and take space in equal measure.
