Welcome to the Firelight Films.

We are so happy you’re here.

As a streaming-ticketholder, we welcome you to view Firelight’s two short films, Ladies and Gentlemen, The Rain (30 minutes) and Dinner Time (40 minutes), on your own time and on your own device. We encourage you to enjoy the show as if you were at the theatre — settle into your seat, dim the lights, silence your cell phone, and imagine other theatregoers are next to you right now. Because they are.

And hey, why not watch in fullscreen, or even cast this video to the biggest screen you got?

These two short films embody our collaborative process + creative problem solving, and we are thrilled to revive them. These projects were born during the pandemic. We were aching to make new work and share it with you, so we pivoted our creative focus to alternative mediums. We created experiences by snail mail, by radio, interdisciplinary art exhibit and by film. The constraints of that time helped us redefine and expand our work.

We love these films. And we’re curious about how they resonate now.

Thank you for coming.

And since you’re here, it’s important to us to know that! Will you please take a moment and join our mailing list so we can keep in touch with you about Firelight? We give a lot of thought to our newsletter, and it’s the best way for us to let you know about future projects.

I am such a fan of shoulder length hair. And any color eyes.
— The Gentleman, in Will Eno's LGTR

Ladies and Gentlemen, The Rain, by Will Eno

Boy meets girl. Sort of.

Theatre meets cinema. Sort of.

In this unique and arresting story, a Lady wants to meet someone. So does a Gentleman. So they do what many of us do: they set up profile for a dating service. They describe themselves. Or who they might be. Or who they want to be.

In this poetic, funny, and chilling filmed play, Pulitzer Prize finalist Will Eno explores romance, conversation, and why we're all here.

Film #2.

To me it has always been clear that a dinner party is about what is said, not what is eaten.
— Gabrielle Hamilton, chef + writer

DINNER TIME, A FIRELIGHT FILM

You’re invited. Come on in. It’s a small dinner party, just the right size. It smells good in here. You can’t place the aroma, but you’re certain it’s Italian. The host hands you a glass of Prosecco. Everyone is chatting. You know a few people, others are strangers. Candles are lit. A fire is crackling. You talk, you listen, you taste the focaccia. You wish you’d brought a nicer bottle of wine.
Welcome to Dinner Time. Let’s eat.

Originally released in November 2023, Firelight offered at-home streaming as well as nine opportunities for in-person screenings at three Monadnock region venues: options included cocktail hour, potluck dinner, or masked screenings. This film was devised by the cast under the guidance of Director Laura Carden.

As a ticketholder, you have access to the Dinner Time juicy companion packet (below), which includes delicious resources, recipes, tunes, and hosting tips from chef+director Laura Carden.

The Dinner Time Packet

Before we dig into the film, let’s talk about dinner parties. We believe the best pairing for this film is, in fact, a dinner party. Or at least some good company and good noshes. Below, we offer you a delicious DINNER TIME PACKET to help you host your own dinner party — or at least be a great guest. It’s yummy. Click on the image to view our companion packet to the film. And while you’re at it, listen to these tunes with us as you cook, sip, read, or host.

But there were always, also, a couple of guests who knew exactly what to do. Who never arrived too early but allowed you a 10-minute breather just past the hour they were expected.
— Gabrielle Hamilton, The Grown Ups' Table

Alright, at-home streamers. Grab your prosecco or your sparkling water. Gather your friends. It’s time to watch Dinner Time. And, as always, let us know your thoughts.

Dinner Time was directed by Laura Carden. Devised and performed by Chris Anderson, Laura Carden, Rutsi Cohen, Nora Fiffer, Rosemary James, Jason Lambert, Aleia Ramsey, and Hejara Russo. Cinematography by Dan Kennedy. Edited by Jeremy S. Collins. Music by Sylvan Esso and Noah MacNeil. Sound by Ben Rogers and Loud Sun Studio. Scenic Design by Sarah Sandback. Assistant Director, Associate Producer, and Music Supervisor Jazimina Creamer-MacNeil. Script Supervisor Ian Aldrich. Executive Producers Nora Fiffer and Jason Lambert.
